NACE code (economic activity classification)

NACE is the European Union's statistical classification of economic activities, which gives every type of activity a code. In Latvia NACE Rev. 2.1 has applied since 1 January 2025, replacing NACE Rev. 2.

The classification is hierarchical: a letter marks the section, a two-digit code the division, and longer codes the group and class. In Latvia the Central Statistical Bureau maintains and publishes it, and Rev. 2.1 was introduced by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/137.

A company's main-activity NACE code appears in the tax data VID publishes for each year. Because the code comes from a given year's data, older records still show NACE Rev. 2 codes that Rev. 2.1 no longer defines.

A NACE code describes the main activity for statistics; it is not a licence or permit. It can still hint whether, for example, the domestic reverse charge for construction services may apply in a client's sector.
