UR (Latvian Enterprise Register)

The Enterprise Register (Uzņēmumu reģistrs, UR) is a Latvian state authority supervised by the Minister for Justice that registers merchants, associations, foundations and other entities and keeps their public registers, including the Commercial Register, the register of associations and foundations and the insolvency register.
Registrations are made by UR state notaries, and the entry creates the legal status: an SIA becomes a legal person on the day it is entered in the Commercial Register. UR also records beneficial owners, commercial pledges and matrimonial property regimes.
On registration UR assigns a unified 11-digit registration number that is also the taxpayer registration code. Basic data such as name, registration number, legal address and registration date is published as open data on data.gov.lv and updated every day.
UR is not VID: UR records that a business exists and who represents and owns it, while VID administers taxes and keeps the VAT payer register.
Example
Before invoicing a new client, the bookkeeper of SIA "Ozols" checks the client's exact name, registration number and legal address in the Enterprise Register data, and whether an insolvency process has been declared against it.
How Fakts handles it
Fakts keeps its own mirror of the Enterprise Register, refreshed every night from data.gov.lv. It fills in client details and powers the public company pages at fakts.lv/registrs/<registration number>.
