Legal address (juridiskā adrese)

A legal address (juridiskā adrese) is the address of a Latvian company entered in the Commercial Register. When registering or changing it, the board states the cadastral designation of the building, apartment or premises and confirms that the company can be reached there and has a legal basis to be there.
The legal address is where the company officially is. A creditor's warning before an insolvency application, for example, is sent to it, so the company has to be reachable at exactly that address.
To change it, the board files an application with the Commercial Register Office, and only the address entered in the register counts as the legal address. A sole proprietor (IK) also states a legal address with a cadastral designation when registering.
A legal address is not the same as an official electronic address (e-adrese), which is a separate channel for communicating with public authorities.
Example
SIA "Ozols" moves to a new office. The board files an application with the Enterprise Register giving the new premises' cadastral designation and confirming that the company has a lease and can be reached there. Until the entry is made, the legal address is still the old one.
